Somali President Convenes Emergency Session Following Deadly Hotel Attack

MOGADISHU, Somalia – In the wake of a devastating terrorist attack at the Liido Beach View Hotel in Mogadishu, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre convened an emergency meeting with the country’s security agencies.

 

The attack, which claimed the lives of at least 32 people and injured 63 others, has prompted the Somali government to intensify its efforts in combating terrorism.

During the meeting, security officials presented a comprehensive report on the attack and outlined strategies to bolster the capital’s security. President Mohamud raised pertinent questions about the attack’s circumstances, measures to safeguard civilians, and support for the affected families.

Expressing his deepest condolences to the victims’ families, President Mohamud condemned the attack as a demonstration of the Khawaarij terrorists’ brutality and their intent to harm Somali civilians. He affirmed the government’s unwavering determination to eliminate this menace.

The president emphasized the critical role of civilian cooperation in the fight against terrorism, urging the public to support the national army and report any suspicious activities. “We are all enemies of the Khawaarij terrorists,” he declared, underscoring the need for unity in the face of this common threat.

The Somali government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens and is actively working to prevent further terrorist attacks. As the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives, President Mohamud’s call for unity and vigilance serves as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility in the fight against terrorism.
