Djibouti – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti on Wednesday for an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations with his Djiboutian counterpart, President Ismail Omar Guelleh.
The two leaders are set to discuss a range of issues, with a focus on security cooperation, economic development, and political coordination in the Horn of Africa.
The visit comes at a critical time for both nations as they face ongoing regional challenges, including insurgencies and efforts to rebuild their economies. Djibouti, which has troops stationed in Somalia as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), plays a crucial role in the fight against the Al-Shabaab militant group, which remains a major threat to regional stability.
During the talks, Mohamud and Guelleh are expected to address shared concerns, including maritime security in the Gulf of Aden and the coordination of humanitarian efforts in the face of recurring droughts. The leaders are also anticipated to discuss strategies to enhance regional stability and cooperation, particularly in the areas of security and economic recovery.
Mohamud’s visit underscores the growing importance of Djibouti as a key partner in Somalia’s efforts to stabilize the region.
The visit is scheduled to conclude on Friday, with additional meetings planned with Djiboutian officials and local community leaders. A joint statement is expected to be issued following the discussions, outlining commitments to enhanced collaboration between the two nations.
