MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held a phone conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
The discussion focused primarily on strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries. It also covered important security and geopolitical issues that have implications for the region and Somalia.
The relationship between Somalia and Qatar has traditionally been close and robust, especially during the presidency of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, with Qatar providing significant support to his administration.
However, there has been a shift, as the United Arab Emirates has developed a closer relationship with the new Somali government, creating a new political dynamic in the region.
The renewed partnership between Somalia and Qatar is also critical for security, with Qatar playing a significant role in supporting Somalia’s military and development efforts.
It remains to be seen how the new Somali government will navigate its relationships with neighboring countries and the broader international community moving forward.
