Somali President Invites Museveni for Official Visit to Mogadishu

KAMPALA [SMN] – In a significant one-day visit to Kampala, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held important discussions with his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni.

 

The meeting focused on security concerns and the new operational initiatives of the African Union in Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh was officially invited by President Museveni, and the two leaders engaged in fruitful talks addressing the security situation in the Horn of Africa. They underscored the need for continued efforts to ensure stability and security across the region.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was the joint support for the launch of the new African Union-led operation, AUSSOM, aimed at bolstering peace and security in Somalia. Both leaders emphasized the urgency of accelerating international support for Somalia’s Security Sector Reform plan and strengthening the capabilities of Somalia’s National Armed Forces.

Additionally, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the defense cooperation agreement between Somalia and Uganda. They instructed the relevant agencies to expedite the implementation of the agreement to ensure its effectiveness.

President Hassan Sheikh expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation, and invited him to visit Mogadishu in the near future.

In response, President Museveni thanked President Hassan Sheikh for his visit and graciously accepted the invitation to visit Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, in the upcoming months.
