MOGADISHU, Somalia – Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, officially opened the 5th Session of the Federal Parliament of Somalia on July 06, 2024, with a speech that praised the historic deliberations and review to finalize the Constitution.
The President emphasized that this step is crucial in enhancing democratization, the rule of law, and ensuring that citizens exercise their constitutional rights, including the right to vote and be elected directly.
In his address to a joint session of the Parliament, President Mohamud recalled the significant achievements registered over the past year, including the completion of the debt relief process, formal accession of the EAC blog, and the lifting of the decades-long armed embargo.
The President also commended Parliament’s resolution to safeguard the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Somali people in the face of unlawful Ethiopian transgression.
