MOGADISHU – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre conducted an urgent inspection on Monday at a National Identification Registration Agency (NIRA) center in the Hodan district of Banadir region, responding to complaints from citizens about difficulties accessing national ID services.

During the visit, the Prime Minister instructed NIRA officials to simplify the process and ensure citizens can obtain their ID cards without unnecessary delays.

“The scenes we have seen on social media are unacceptable. Girls should not be forced to come at night or sleep outside; their safety is at risk and it is not proper. Work schedules should be extended to reduce pressure, and services must be made more accessible to the public,” Prime Minister Hamza said.

He also directed the agency to separate the lines for registration and card collection, so that those collecting ID cards do not have to queue with individuals registering for the first time.

Prime Minister Hamza stressed that making national ID services more accessible and safe is a priority for the government, emphasizing the need to protect citizens while improving efficiency.
