Somali Prime Minister Reshuffles Cabinet and Makes Key Appointments

MOGADISHU Somalia – Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre announced a minor cabinet reshuffle on Saturday, appointing four new members to key positions. This strategic decision comes as part of the government’s effort to address the extensive tasks ahead and fulfill constitutional duties.

 

The appointments were made in accordance with Articles 97, 98, and 100 of the Provisional Constitution, following consultations with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of these changes in enhancing the government’s capacity to handle critical matters effectively.

Among the notable appointments is General Bashir Mohamed Jama, who takes on the role of Minister for Family Affairs and Human Rights Development. This position was previously vacant following the demise of Khadija Dire. Gen. Jama, recently elected to the House of the People in a by-election for seat HOP 18 in Dhusamareb, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

He has previously served as State Minister for Public Works and as interim Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

Other key appointments include Omar Ali Abdi, who assumes the position of State Minister of Defense. Said Mohamed Hayd has been appointed as State Minister of Public Works and Housing, while Mohamud Abdiqadir Haji takes on the role of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.

These appointments come at a crucial time for Somalia, as the nation continues to face numerous challenges. The new ministers are expected to play a pivotal role in implementing the government’s development agenda and improving the lives of Somali citizens.
