Somali Rescue Forum Calls for Halt to Flawed Human Rights Commission Selection

MOGADISHU, June 7 — The Somali Rescue Forum has voiced strong concerns over the ongoing selection process for members of the Independent Human Rights Commission, accusing authorities of violating constitutional requirements.

In a statement released this week, the Forum said the current process fails to meet the standards set out in Articles 41 and 111B of the Provisional Constitution, which mandate the Federal Parliament to form an independent, inclusive commission free from political interference.

“The ongoing selection process blatantly contravenes these constitutional provisions,” the Forum said, urging an immediate halt to the process until proper procedures are followed.

The Independent Human Rights Commission, once established, is expected to play a critical role in promoting and protecting human rights across Somalia.

The Somali Rescue Forum warned that politicizing the selection risks undermining the credibility and effectiveness of the body.
