MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Commander of the SNA’s infantry Forces, General Dayah Abdi Abdulle said that heavy fighting took place in the south of the Mudug region.

In Addition, Abdulle has revealed that Al-Shabaab suffered heavy losses in the battle after the government and local forces attacked their bases in and around Aad area several times.

He also pointed out that the bases of the group were destroyed, and military vehicles and weapons were recovered, marking significant progress in the current war on Al-Shabaab.

“The army attacked positions belonging to Al-Shabaab, which lasted for many hours. We destroyed many of their bases in the Aad zone.” said the Commander of the land forces.

Liberation operations are underway in the Mudug region by the army with the cooperation of the local clan forces, who have cleared Al-Shabaab areas in Galmudug and HirShabelle.

The Horn of Africa country’s defense ministry reported on Sunday that more than 130 Al-Shabaab members were killed in massive military operations in central, southern Somalia.

After making significant progress, Somalia’s offensive against the Al-Shabaab group has stalled for months after the president returned from the frontlines to focus on other issues.
