Somali, Turkish Presidents Discuss Ties and Regional Issues in Phone Call

Mogadishu, June 1, 2025 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a telephone conversation on Sunday with his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, the Somali presidency said.

 

According to a statement from Villa Somalia, the two leaders focused on strengthening cooperation between Somalia and Turkey, as well as addressing regional and global issues of mutual interest.

President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s continued support for Somalia’s development ambitions, rooted in democratic principles, and pledged to enhance Ankara’s assistance in Somalia’s fight against terrorism.

He also highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries, especially in key sectors such as energy and fisheries, which he described as areas of significant potential.

President Mohamud expressed his gratitude for Turkey’s consistent and wide-ranging support to Somalia, noting the historic and brotherly ties that bind the two nations.

President Erdoğan concluded the call by extending warm greetings and best wishes to President Mohamud and the Somali people on the occasion of the upcoming Eid al-Adha festival.
