KAMPALA, Uganda [SMN] – The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, together with his Ugandan counterpart, Vincent Bamulangaki presided over the commissioning parade for the new graduate SNA cadets at the military academy in Uganda.
The graduates were being commissioned after undergoing months of training program that involved combat missions and tactics that are vital for the counter-terrorism operations.
Uganda trained thousands of new soldiers joining Somalia’s Armed Forces, who have been preparing to take over the security responsibility of their nation of the AU peacekeepers.
The new soldiers will be deployed to the front lines of the war against Al-Shabaab.
It is the second batch of the military to graduate from the training camp in Uganda this year. About 3,000 other soldiers have already completed their basic military courses and have now taken over the responsibility of the Mogadishu security.
This is part of the Somali government’s plan to increase the number of troops to take over from ATMIS by the end of 2024.
Uganda is one of Somalia’s friendly countries that is taking part in the rebuilding of the country’s army, as it has provided military training to tens of thousands of soldiers, and has also contributed the largest number of ATMIS troops, which are helping the government.
