Somalia and Iraq Forge Stronger Ties in Baghdad Meeting

Baghdad, Iraq – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre, met with the President of Iraq, Mr. Abdi-Ladif Jamal Rashid, in a high-level meeting that underscored the growing ties between the two nations.

 

Prime Minister Barre, visiting Baghdad, conveyed a message from the President of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh, highlighting the strides made by the Somali people and their government. The meeting, described by President Ladif as a “good step,” is seen as a pivotal moment in expanding the scope of cooperation between Somalia and Iraq.

The Iraqi President welcomed the Somali delegation warmly, expressing his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations. The discussions focused on deepening cooperation in security, diplomacy, and education. President Ladif emphasized the importance of educational opportunities for Somali students in Iraqi universities, signaling a potential boost in educational exchanges between the two countries.

Prime Minister Barre reaffirmed Somalia’s dedication to strengthening its ties with Iraq across various sectors. He emphasized the mutual benefits of such cooperation, particularly in bolstering regional security, peace, and stability.
