RABAT, Morocco — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met Friday with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, in Rabat to reaffirm both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties through a new comprehensive cooperation agreement.
During the meeting, the two ministers signed a cooperation roadmap for 2026–2028, which focuses on expanding collaboration across key sectors including agriculture, water and irrigation, maritime fishing, tourism, renewable energy, education and vocational training, higher education, health, security, economic investment, climate change, sports, and culture.
The agreement increases the annual scholarship quota for Somali students to 120, covering university, technical, and vocational training.
The ministers also signed a visa-waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic passports, aimed at facilitating diplomatic exchanges between Rabat and Mogadishu.
Both sides emphasized the importance of coordination and political consultation within international and regional organizations, agreeing that collaboration helps align positions on shared concerns while respecting the principles of peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The two ministers reaffirmed their steadfast support for the independence and sovereignty of both nations and commended the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.
The talks were conducted in the spirit of a “South–South” partnership between two African nations, highlighting renewed momentum in Somali–Moroccan relations and a shared determination to build a strong, diversified, and forward-looking cooperation framework.
