Riyadh, Sept 4, 2025 – Somalia and Saudi Arabia have discussed strengthening cooperation in the fields of telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), and space technology during a high-level meeting held on the sidelines of the Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-25) in Riyadh.
Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, Director General of Somalia’s National Communications Authority (NCA), met with Haitham Al-Ohali, Governor of Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), to explore avenues for collaboration between the two regulatory bodies.
According to officials, the talks focused on developing a strategic partnership around AI governance, space technology coordination, and infrastructure sharing — key areas of innovation and regulation in both countries.
“This meeting reflects our shared commitment to building modern, secure, and inclusive digital ecosystems,” said a Somali delegate, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in managing emerging technologies.
The encounter is part of Somalia’s broader push to strengthen institutional ties with global partners in the communications and technology sectors, as the country continues to modernize its digital infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.
Both parties expressed interest in technical exchanges, capacity building, and harmonizing regulatory approaches to foster responsible innovation and regional digital integration.
