MOGADISHU – Somalia has put forward its candidacy for a position on the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) for the 2025-2028 term, aiming to play a significant role in Africa’s peace and security landscape, officials announced on Tuesday.

Somalia, which has hosted the African Union Mission for over 17 years, sees this candidacy as an opportunity to showcase its evolution from conflict to becoming a model of African-led solutions, emphasizing its dedication to Pan-African values.

The country’s recent achievements, including debt relief, election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 period, and joining the East African Community, underscore its emerging leadership on both regional and continental stages.

“Somalia’s journey reflects our commitment to peace, stability, and unity across Africa,” a government spokesperson said, highlighting the nation’s readiness to contribute to the AU’s peace and security agenda.
