Somalia Appoints First Second Deputy Prime Minister Since Interim Government

MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed Abdisalan Abdi Ali as the country’s Second Deputy Prime Minister, a position that has not been filled since the interim government.

 

In a reshuffle that also saw several other key appointments, Abdisalan, who previously held the position of Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, was succeeded by Dr. Elmi Nur, the former Finance Minister.

The new appointments under Barre’s administration include:

– Yusuf Mohamed Adan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs
Mohamud Ahmed Adan, Minister of Maritime Transport and Ports
Ilyas Sheikh Omar Abubakar, Minister of State for Justice and the Constitution
Ismail Shire Jama, Minister of State for Petroleum and Minerals
Mohamed Osman Omar, Minister of State for Family and Human Rights
Eynaanshe Yusuf Hussein, Minister of State for Labor and Social Affairs
Mohamed Yusuf Hassan, Minister of State for Fisheries and Blue Economy
Mohamed Nur Abubakar, Minister of State for Trade and Industry

These changes reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to restructure and address various sectors critical for Somalia’s development and governance.
