Mogadishu — Somalia’s National Army Command has issued a strong warning against the unauthorized use of military uniforms, ranks, insignia, and related equipment, in a move aimed at curbing misuse and preserving the integrity of the armed forces.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the Somali National Army (SNA) command declared that individuals found using military attire or symbols without authorization will face strict legal action under military law.
“No civilian or unauthorized person is permitted to wear the uniform, ranks, or insignia of the Somali National Army. Violators will be prosecuted in accordance with the military code,” the statement read.
The army command also directed a specific warning to business owners, particularly those operating garages, prohibiting them from:
- Painting or altering military vehicles
- Repairing or servicing military vehicles
- Selling equipment or offering services related to military transport
The military stressed that such actions not only violate national laws but also pose security risks and could facilitate impersonation or abuse.
“All business entities and members of the public are hereby advised to avoid the sale, purchase, or use of any military symbols, uniforms, or equipment unless officially authorized,” the statement added.
The announcement comes amid growing concerns about the misuse of military gear by individuals unaffiliated with the armed forces, raising alarm within security circles.
The army command concluded by urging full public cooperation in respecting the laws governing military conduct and protecting the honor and operational discipline of the Somali National Army.
