MOGADISHU, Somalia – Sayid Ali Moalim Daud, who is accused of burning his wife to death, appeared today for the second time in the court of Banadir region, to face murder charges against him.

The court was presented with 4 witnesses, 3 of whom were witnesses who were not far from the house where the act took place, and they shared with the court what they witnessed.

The witnesses gave instructions that showed that Mr. Ali Macalin Daoud committed this act, although the accused and his lawyer denied this.

Sayid Ali, who was allowed to defend himself by the court, said that on the night of the incident, his wife fought after she asked him for a ‘divorce’.

He said when his wife filed for divorce he went out and bought a diesel and told his wife he was going to burn the furniture in the house. He argued that his wife was not burned by his hand, but by the fire he set in the house.

The deputy prosecutor of the court, Yahye Mohamud Saeed, requested that the accused be sentenced to death, saying that it is clear that the accused committed this act.

The chairman of the Banadir Regional Court said that the court will have a third session to discuss this case, but did not say when it would be.
