MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has expressed strong solidarity with Qatar during a phone call with the Gulf state’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, officials said.
According to a statement from the Somali government, Fiqi conveyed the full support of the Somali leadership and people following recent attacks reported inside Qatar. He condemned the incidents, describing them as acts that undermine the country’s security and sovereignty and violate international norms.
During the conversation, the two sides also discussed the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and defence cooperation between the two nations.
Fiqi expressed confidence that Qatar would overcome the current challenges, reiterating Mogadishu’s commitment to maintaining close friendship and strategic partnership with the Gulf state.
Somalia and Qatar have in recent years deepened political and security cooperation, with officials from both countries frequently emphasising their shared interest in regional stability and development.
