SABIID, Somalia– Somalia’s military court on Monday executed two former soldiers convicted of assassinating their unit commander using a remote-controlled explosive device, officials said.

The executed soldiers – Mohamed Hussein Buulle and Adan Isak Yarow, also known as “Salad Koofi”, were members of the Somali National Army’s 14th October Brigade. The two were found guilty of planting an explosive device under the bed of their commander, Lieutenant Aydiid Mohamed Ali, leading to his death.

The execution was carried out in Sabiid and Caanoole in the Lower Shabelle region, following a military court order.

“This was a lawful retribution,” said Deputy Military Prosecutor Hassan Mohamed Siyaad, also known as Xasan Tarsan. “Whoever sheds blood unjustly, their own blood becomes lawful to shed under the law.”

Military Court Chief Judge Liibaan Ali Yaroow and Somali National Army Chief General Odowaa Yuusuf Raage both issued stern warnings to other personnel, urging them to uphold military discipline and national security.

“The army represents the nation. Any betrayal will be met with the full force of the law,” General Odowaa said.

Authorities described the execution as part of broader efforts to maintain discipline and justice within the armed forces, amid ongoing security challenges in Somalia.
