MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre met with new Italian Ambassador Pier Mario Dacco’ Coppi today at his main office inside the presidential palace known as Villa Somalia.
The two sides have emphasized the importance of enhancing longstanding relations and cooperation between the two nations, discussing various development programs.
According to a statement issued by the PM’s office, Barre expressed gratitude for Italy’s continuous support and commitment to Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Last year, Somalia and Italy announced the launch of a new fund to support the country’s efforts to achieve peace and stability.
The fund, called Towards Peace and Stability in Somalia (TPSS) Fund, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre in partnership with the Government of Italy.
The TPSS Fund is a new initiative that aims to enhance the coordination and effectiveness of international assistance to Somalia. It will be managed by a steering committee composed of representatives from Somalia, Italy, and other donors.
Italy is a key partner in Somalia. It supports Somalia’s institutional, economic, and security framework, regional integration processes, and the fight against Al-Shabaab.
