MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Ministry of Planning on Thursday launched a national consultation meeting bringing together federal and state-level planning ministers to accelerate the implementation of the country’s new development agenda.

The gathering, held in Mogadishu, convened the National Development Council, which includes the federal planning minister and his counterparts from the Federal Member States. Discussions centered on speeding up the rollout of the National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029), strengthening coordination between federal and regional institutions, responding to the ongoing drought, and unifying development planning across the country.

Planning Minister Mahamuud C. Sheikh Farah (Beenebeene) officially opened the meeting, stressing the importance of building a coherent, national planning framework and ensuring steady progress on the NTP.

Officials also presented the end-term evaluation of the 9th National Development Plan (NDP 2020–2024) as well as updates on the early phase of the NTP, prepared by various departments within the Ministry of Planning. Representatives of the Federal Member States submitted their own progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges and priorities for the coming year.

Closing the meeting, Beenebeene said the ministry would intensify cooperation with federal member states to ensure the effective implementation of the NTP and to deliver “inclusive, sustainable development” for Somali citizens.
