MOGADISHU, Somalia – The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) successfully apprehended three Al-Shabaab militants in Mogadishu, preventing a potential terror attack in the capital.

The operation led to the seizure of weapons along with two rickshaws and a motorcycle used by the militants belonging to the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group, Al-Shabaab.

According to the NISA statement, the militants were planning to carry out violent activities in Mogadishu, aiming to destabilize the city. The timely intervention by NISA not only neutralized the immediate threat but also provided law enforcement with valuable intelligence on Al-Shabaab’s operations within urban areas.

This operation underscores Somalia’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, particularly from Al-Shabaab, which has been a significant security challenge for years. The capture of these militants, along with their equipment, is seen as a critical blow to the terrorist group’s activities in the region.

Authorities have not released the identities of the arrested individuals but confirmed that the weapons and vehicles seized will be further analyzed for forensic evidence to potentially identify more cells or planned attacks.

The incident highlights the persistent security issues in Somalia, where Al-Shabaab continues to pose a threat despite military and intelligence efforts by both local forces and international partners. NISA’s actions are part of a broader strategy to enhance security and protect civilian lives against the backdrop of frequent terrorist threats.
