LAS ANOD, Somalia – Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) on Saturday officially inaugurated a new Emergency Response Centre and Strategic Food Reserve Warehouse in the northeastern regional state of Puntland.
The opening ceremony was led by SoDMA Commissioner Mohamud Moallim Abdulle and attended by senior Puntland officials, including Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Abdirisak Hindi, Minister of Religious Affairs, and Minister of Energy and Water.
Also present were representatives from the construction company that carried out the project.
The facility, developed by SoDMA in collaboration with Puntland’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, was funded and technically supported by the Government of China.
The new centre is intended to serve as a key operational hub for emergency response activities, enabling quicker and more coordinated action in the face of both natural and man-made disasters across the region.
In addition, the site includes a large warehouse designed for the storage of food supplies and essential emergency relief items, aimed at improving response capacity throughout the Puntland administration areas.
Commissioner Abdulle described the centre as a vital addition to Somalia’s disaster response infrastructure and thanked China for its continued support to the Somali people.
