Mogadishu — Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation officially opened the National Local Governance Coordination Meeting on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of strong and accountable local governments to promote peace and sustainable development.
The meeting, themed “Strengthening Cooperation and Collaboration to Achieve Responsible, Resilient, and Service-Oriented Local Governments,” gathers representatives from the federal member states of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Jubaland, and South West State, as well as from SSC Khatumo and the Benadir Regional Administration (BRA).
“Building strong and accountable local governments is essential to bringing services closer to the people, promoting peace, and advancing sustainable development across Somalia,” said H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, during the opening session.
The coordination meeting aims to provide a platform for exchanging experiences, discussing shared challenges, and showcasing progress made in advancing local governance and service delivery across Somalia’s diverse regions.
This initiative is seen as a critical step toward enhancing cooperation among Somalia’s federal member states and regional administrations, supporting efforts to decentralize governance, improve public services, and strengthen political stability in the country.
