MOGADISHU, Dec 10, 2025 – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday held talks with Russia’s ambassador as he continues a series of meetings with foreign diplomats based in the country, his office said.
During the meeting, Barre briefed Ambassador Mikhail Golovanov on Somalia’s overall situation, including security developments, progress in state-building efforts and the expansion of government services, according to a statement.
The prime minister also outlined Somalia’s growing engagement in regional and international affairs, while the two sides discussed strengthening diplomatic ties and cooperation between Mogadishu and Moscow.
Barre further updated the envoy on the humanitarian situation, particularly the impact of drought on communities across parts of the country, and possible responses to address the crisis.
Golovanov welcomed the positive state of relations between the two countries and expressed Russia’s commitment to further expanding cooperation with Somalia, the statement said.
The meeting was attended by Somalia’s disaster management chief, Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle, who presented a statistical briefing on the humanitarian situation, as well as senior officials from the prime minister’s office.
