MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, led a significant meeting of the Cabinet Sub-committee on Inclusive Politics Sunday, concentrating on speeding up support for the nation’s electoral process and finalizing the constitutional review.

Officials updated the panel on initiatives to ensure free and fair elections, highlighting the importance of citizens’ constitutional rights to participate in voting. The discussions underscored the government’s commitment to a transparent electoral framework.

Barre urged the subcommittee to hasten their support for election preparations and emphasized the need for public education campaigns to boost voter awareness and democratic engagement.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission and Boundaries (GMDQS) holds the responsibility for managing all elections,” Barre stated. “Our government pledges full support to the commission to implement a one-person, one-vote system successfully. I urge all government bodies to expedite their roles in aiding this electoral process.”

The session also covered progress on the constitutional review, particularly amendments to chapters 5 through 9, and provided updates on the National Transformation Plan, which is close to being finalized.
