Mogadishu, January 22, 2026 – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke by phone on Thursday with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, congratulating him on his re-election in last week’s vote.

During the call, Mohamud wished Museveni a term marked by peace, stability, and sustainable development, and both leaders discussed strengthening long-standing ties between Somalia and Uganda, particularly in security, political cooperation, and mutual interests.

The two presidents also stressed the importance of regional unity, sovereignty, and cooperation, affirming their commitment to deepening collaboration across the Horn of Africa to ensure lasting peace and development.

Museveni won a seventh term in the January 15 election, which opposition figures criticized over alleged corruption and irregularities.
