NEW YORK – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday with his Serbian counterpart, Marko Đurić, to strengthen diplomatic cooperation and training, officials said.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The agreement formalizes collaboration between the Diplomatic Studies Institute of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.
According to a joint statement, the deal aims to enhance diplomatic training, capacity-building, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two countries’ foreign service institutions.
Both ministers welcomed the agreement as a step forward in deepening bilateral ties and fostering long-term cooperation in diplomacy, education, and international affairs.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on global developments and explore future areas of cooperation.
The agreement reflects Somalia’s broader efforts to build strong international partnerships, while Serbia reaffirmed its interest in expanding engagement with African nations, particularly those in the Horn of Africa.
