MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, is attending the 34th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, marking the third day of the high-level conference, officials said Wednesday.
The meeting, hosted in the British capital, brings together maritime leaders to discuss global shipping regulations, port development, maritime security, and anti-piracy measures.
Minister Nur is joined by Mohamed Ali Nur (Ameriko), Director General of Mogadishu Port, Somalia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Abdulkadir Abdi Hashi, and other senior government officials.
During the conference, Somali representatives held bilateral talks with international counterparts on strengthening maritime security in Somali waters, modernising port infrastructure, implementing international maritime regulations, and combating piracy and illegal trafficking at sea.
Officials also visited UK port facilities to observe advanced maritime management systems and explore technical collaboration opportunities.
The IMO session is expected to conclude soon, with Somalia seeking international support for enhancing its ports, maritime governance, and broader maritime economy.
