MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, H.E. Ali Yusuf Hosh, spearheaded the launch of the Dowlad-Kaab Local Governance Program today, in an event that underscored a collaborative effort towards strengthening local governance in Somalia.
The ceremony, held in Mogadishu, was attended by representatives from Federal Member States, the Banadir Regional Administration, various diplomatic missions, and United Nations representatives, signaling broad-based support for the initiative.
The Dowlad-Kaab Local Governance Program aims to enhance community participation in governance, promote reconciliation, and foster sustainable development at the grassroots level. Speaking at the launch, Minister Hosh emphasized the importance of local governance in achieving lasting peace and development. “This program is not just about governance; it’s about empowering our communities to take charge of their future, ensuring that peace and development are driven from the ground up,” he stated.
The presence of representatives from across Somalia’s federal structure, including the Banadir Regional Administration, highlighted the program’s national significance. Diplomatic missions and UN representatives expressed their commitment to supporting such initiatives, which they believe are crucial for stability and progress in Somalia.
The event also featured discussions on how the program will integrate with existing national reconciliation efforts and the broader framework of federalism in Somalia. Minister Hosh’s leadership in this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to decentralizing power and resources, thereby fostering a more inclusive and responsive governance system.
This launch marks a significant step in Somalia’s journey towards rebuilding its governance structures post-conflict, with a focus on local empowerment and reconciliation. The program’s success could set a precedent for similar initiatives across other regions facing governance challenges.
