Doha, Qatar – Somalia’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Yusuf Mohamed, met with Turkey’s Minister of Labour and Social Security, Prof. Dr. Vedat Işıkhan, on the sidelines of an official event in Doha on Saturday, to finalize a bilateral labour cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening employment and workforce development in Somalia.

The two ministers discussed the implementation of the agreement, which was approved by the Somali Council of Ministers in July 2025. It focuses on boosting job creation, enhancing employment opportunities, and developing workforce capacity in Somalia, with technical support from Turkey.

The official signing ceremony is expected to take place soon in Turkey.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to launch specialized training programs for Somali personnel, particularly staff from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. These programs will benefit from Turkish expertise in labour systems and social welfare administration.

Minister Mohamed expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reiterated Somalia’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Turkey. He also praised Turkey’s ongoing support for Somalia’s development.

Turkey has been a key partner for Somalia in infrastructure, education, and humanitarian support since diplomatic ties between the two nations strengthened in the past decade.
