MOGADISHU – The Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moalim Faqi Ahmed, stressed the importance of Arab solidarity and support for Somalia’s position in the face of foreign interference, especially the rejection of the memorandum of understanding signed by the “Somaliland” region and the state of Ethiopia.

According to what was reported by the Somali media, Faki Ahmed chaired the Arab ministerial working group to support the Federal Republic of Somalia in confronting the attack on its sovereignty and territorial integrity, prior to the launch of the “Preparatory Meeting of the League of Arab States Council at the level of foreign ministers” for the 33rd Arab Summit held in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

The Somali official spoke in a speech before the ministerial committee concerned with Somalia, in which he highlighted the most important issues related to Somalia’s relations with Ethiopia and the internal challenges.

Speaking about the historical context of Somalia’s relations with Ethiopia, he pointed to centuries-old tensions characterized by regional disputes and Ethiopian expansionism.

He said that his country “resisted the Ethiopian invasions,” considering that “the emergence of the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement is due to the effects of Ethiopia’s interference in Somali internal affairs,” as he put it.
