Somalia Weekly Report: Politics, Development, Security, and Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The government of Somalia issued a weekly report that covers the latest events related to politics, development, and security as well as the war on Al-Shabaab.

 

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has praised the historic military achievements of the forces and the people of the Puntland state in the fight against the Kharijite terrorist group, Daesh, while on the other hand he echoed the call of the Cabinet to support Puntland’s fight against terrorism.

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has issued a decree to reinstate full rights of Col Ibrahim Maallin Abdullahi who was previously removed from the National Intelligence Agency (NISA).

3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has signed into law the Somalia Labor Act which has already been approved by both houses of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a welcoming meeting with well-known content creator, Asad Hajiyow, who was disabled during an attempt on his life by Khairijites Al Shabab a decade ago.

5- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre participated in the swearing-in ceremony of units of the GorGor Commando Force of the Somali National Army, urging them to fully defend the country upon assuming their responsibilities.

6- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre chaired the meeting of the cabinet Sub-Committee on Inclusive Politics, which discussed the acceleration of support for the election and the completion of the draft constitution.

7- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre appointed Mr. Ismail Said Aw-Mouse to be the Deputy Manager of Mogadishu Port.

8- Following an event of laying the foundation stone of a modern hotel and shopping mall in Mogadishu, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre indicated that the implementation of these projects testifies the rapid recovery Somalia is making,and the readiness to welcome more investment into the country.

9- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre received the new Ambassador of Palestine Rowaid Adil Mohamed, discussing the strengthening of brotherly relations between the two sides.

10- The Cabinet has endorsed two MoU’s between Somalia and Azerbaijan, on the fields of education, training and energy.

11- The Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama had a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev.

12- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, has attended the closing ceremony in which the 11th batch of Danab commandos has finished an intense training session at the Balidoogle camp.

13- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, has spent time and mingled with inhabitants of Mogadishu, while listening to their views, concerns, and feelings on the progress the government has made improving the security of the capital.

14- The Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama condoled the death of Ugas Abdidahir Ugas Nur, a well-known traditional elder who recently passed on in Mogadishu.

15- The 7th Gathering of National Somali Prosecutors was held in Mogadishu, with the theme on combating and curbing the financing and financial resources of terrorists.

16- The Ministry of Internal Security has said that national security forces have succeeded in preventing a group of spoilers who were planning to disrupt the stability of Baardheere district of Gedo region.

17- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, hosted a dinner in Mogadishu for the visiting Azerbaijani delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yalchin Rafiyev.

18- The Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) visited Turkiye, where he held various meetings with the Turkish authorities.

19- Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur had a meeting with the Acting UN SRSG Mr. James Swan, where they discussed ongoing military offenses against the Kharijites Al Shabab and the role of AUSSOM forces.

20- At an event held in Mogadishu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, emphasized the importance of mutual understanding between states over water resources sharing, warning about possible unnecessary disagreements among countries if the resources are not shared properly on agreed manners.

21- The Attorney General of Somalia, Dr. Suleyman Mohamed, visited the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency, where he discussed dealing with illegal immigration, smuggling and immigration-related crimes.

22- The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Mr. Hassan Macallin Mohamud held a meeting on the strengthening of judicial cooperation with a high delegation from the Ministry of Justice in Egypt led by Mr. Haytham Hegazy.

23- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Daud Aweis Jama briefed the Somali community in Sweden on the country’s situation and important agendas for the Federal Government of Somalia.

24- The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mr. Yusuf Mohamed Adan had a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy in Somalia Mr. Carsten Carlsen.

25- The Governor of Banadir Region and the Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Amir laid the foundation stone for the Community Park in Banadir Region, which is part of the development plan of the capital.

26- The Chairman of the National Agency for Refugees and Displaced Persons, Ahmed Hussein Elmi, together with the representative of the IGAD regional organization in Somalia, have opened a conference in Mogadishu aimed to discuss ways to support refugees and displaced persons in the country.

27- Somalia and the United States have cooperated in a military operation targeting senior members of Daesh terrorists who were hiding in Bari Region of Puntland State of Somalia.

28- Minister of Defense Abdiqadir Mohamed Nur has given more details about the attacks carried out by the US forces in the mountains of Aalmiskaad in the Bari region.

29- The Somali National Army with the collaboration of the local defence forces have inflicted a heavy defeat on the Kharijites Al Shabab terrorists, following a military offensive that took place in several areas under HirShabelle State.

30- The Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali-Hoosh had a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Mr. Wang Yu.

31- The Director General of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Mr. Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow, had a meeting with the Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, Joachim Waern.

32- The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Mr. Ahmed Hassan Adan, met with Turkish delegation and discussed issues related to investment in Somalia’s marine resources.

33- The President of the Supreme Court Mr. Baashe Yusuf Ahmed held a meeting with a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Justice, where they discussed how the two countries could cooperate in the fields of training, exchange of experiences and the modernization of the judiciary.

34- The Chairman of the National Agency for Refugees and Displaced Persons, Ahmed Hussein Elmi, had a meeting with the Head of the IOM Somalia, Mr. Manuel Marques Pereira.

35- The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development Mrs. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi had a meeting with the Acting UN SRSG to Somalia Ambassador James Swan.

36- Minister of Education and Heritage Mr. Farah Abdulkadir met with the Acting UN SRSG to Somalia Ambassador James Swan in Mogadishu.

37- The Commander of the Police Forces, Brig. General Asad Osman Abdullahi had a meeting with the British Ambassador to Somalia Mike Nithavrianakis.

38- The Commander of the Turkish Military Forces General Metin Gurak visited Mogadishu.

39- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Maallim Fiqi, had a meeting with Mamadou Dian Balde, the Regional Director of the East, Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

40- The President of Namibia, Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, received the diplomatic credentials from Ambassador Mohamed Isaaq Ibrahim, who will represent Somalia in the country.

41- The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Ali Mohamed Omar welcomed a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Yalchin Refiyev in Mogadishu.

42- The President of the South West State, Mr. Abdicasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, has signed the law on the disabled.

43- The General Manager of the National Telecommunication Authority, Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, participated in the Conference of the Forum for the Development of Arab Countries (RDFARB) in Amman, Jordan, which is part of the preparation for the World Conference on the Development of Telecommunications.

44- The Puntland Darwish forces have presented the leader of the planned killings of the Daesh terrorist group, Abdirahman Shirwac Aw-Said (Lahore), who recently surrendered to the security forces of Puntland.

45- The Commander of the Somali Police Force, Brig.General Asad Osman Abdullahi, met with the Indonesian Ambassador to Somalia, Dr. Mohamed Hery Saripudin.

46- More than 50 members of the Daesh terrorist group were killed and many others were injured following a full-force military offensive by Puntland State forces in the mountains of Al-Miskaad in the Bari region.
