MOGADISHU — The Federal Republic of Somalia on Tuesday welcomed the announcement by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) regarding its decision to dissolve itself, lay down arms, and bring an end to its decades-long armed campaign.
In a statement, Somali authorities praised the move as a positive step toward regional stability and conflict resolution.
“The Federal Republic of Somalia commends the decision by the PKK to end its armed struggle and dissolve the organization. This is a courageous and necessary step toward lasting peace,” the statement read.
While Somalia has no direct involvement in the conflict, the government underscored its support for peaceful political solutions to long-running insurgencies and separatist movements.
The PKK, which has waged a four-decade insurgency primarily in Turkey, has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union. Its announcement marks a significant development in regional geopolitics.
