Somalia’s National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA) has won an international award from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its work on disaster preparedness and early warning.

The recognition was announced during the World Food Forum and accepted by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, who represented Somalia at the ceremony.

FAO said the award acknowledged SoDMA’s contribution to the global “Early Warning for All” initiative and its role in improving community resilience to droughts and floods.

SoDMA’s chairman, Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, thanked FAO for its “continued partnership and information sharing that help Somalia respond before crises escalate.”

The agency said it would continue efforts to build a society more resistant to climate change, with projects aimed at protecting lives and livelihoods across the country.

Somalia remains one of the most disaster-prone nations in the Horn of Africa, where repeated droughts and flooding have left millions vulnerable to food insecurity.
