WASHINGTON – Somalia’s Finance Minister, Biihi Iman Egeh, has taken part in a high-level session at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, with discussions focused on the economic impact of climate change across Africa.

The session, chaired by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, brought together African finance ministers to address challenges facing the continent’s economies and explore long-term solutions.

In a brief speech, Minister Egeh highlighted the growing effects of climate change on fragile economies like Somalia’s, and called for sustainable and inclusive responses to mitigate its impacts.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Somali delegation held a productive meeting with representatives from the United Kingdom, focusing on investment opportunities, climate resilience, and post-crisis economic recovery.

Egeh also held bilateral talks with Fahad Al-Turki, Director General of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF), discussing Somalia’s ongoing economic reform program, financing needs, and development priorities.

The annual IMF-World Bank meetings provide a platform for global financial leaders to discuss economic policy, international cooperation, and strategies to support developing economies amid evolving global challenges.
