KAMPALA, Uganda — Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, attending the African Union Summit on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) in Uganda, visited the Somali Embassy in Kampala on Wednesday.

Fiqi, who landed in Kampala earlier in the week, was greeted with enthusiasm by Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Fardowsa Mohamed Kanyare. The embassy visit was not only ceremonial but also served to reinforce Somalia’s diplomatic connections and evaluate the embassy’s effectiveness in serving the Somali community in Uganda.

During his tour, Fiqi engaged with embassy staff and members of the local Somali diaspora, discussing issues pertinent to the Somali population in Uganda and ways to enhance bilateral relations. He commended the embassy team for their dedication under challenging circumstances, emphasizing the importance of strengthening diaspora networks.

The CAADP summit, which is a key platform for African countries to strategize on agricultural development, agriculture policy, and food security, was a focal point for Fiqi’s visit. Somalia, recovering from years of conflict and environmental challenges, is eager to leverage the summit to highlight its agricultural achievements and seek further international cooperation and investment in its agricultural sector.

Fiqi participated in various summit sessions, advocating for initiatives that could benefit Somalia’s largely agrarian economy. He expressed Somalia’s commitment to CAADP’s goals, particularly in enhancing agricultural productivity, resilience to climate change, and reducing food insecurity.

This visit to Uganda also comes at a time when Somalia is looking to expand its international partnerships to aid in national rebuilding efforts. The diplomatic engagement in Kampala underscores Somalia’s efforts to not only address its domestic agricultural needs but also to position itself as an active participant in regional and continental development discussions.

Somalia’s embassy in Kampala, under Ambassador Kanyare’s leadership, has been pivotal in fostering these relations, providing consular services, and promoting cultural exchanges. The visit by Foreign Minister Fiqi was seen as a morale boost and a reaffirmation of Somalia’s commitment to its diaspora and international allies.
