JOWHAR, Somalia — The Minister of Internal Affairs for Hirshabelle State, Abdi Dahir Gure (Karoore), has suspended El Baraf’s governor, Yusuf Hassan Khurshow after six soldiers were killed in an ambush attack by a local clan militia on Friday.
The minister revealed that Khurshow’s suspension stems from suspicions of his involvement in the soldiers’ deaths which promptly drew wider local condemnations.
In an interview with Shabelle Radio, Gure said, “The DC is suspected of having a role in the killing of the soldiers. He has been suspended until the investigation is complete,”.
In a brutal act of vengeance, militia fighters ambushed and killed six Hawadle clan soldiers who were on leave, heading to their families in the Hiiraan region. The attack took place as the soldiers traveled through El Baraf in Middle Shabelle.
Local eyewitnesses recounted the chilling scene where the soldiers were singled out and shot in the head, indicating a deliberate and vicious retaliation.
After the attack, the bodies of the fallen Somali National Army soldiers were later transported to Hiiraan region where they were laid to rest, amidst mourning from their community.
This action highlights the growing tensions and challenges in governance and security in the region state which faces persistent clan conflicts that hamper the developments.
