LASANOD, Somalia, Oct 20, 2025 – The president of Somalia’s newly established Northeastern State, Abdiqadir Ahmed Ali (Firdhiye), has appointed a 21-member cabinet, according to a decree issued by his office on Monday.
The new cabinet includes one woman, while several members are former Puntland lawmakers and ministers, reflecting a mix of political backgrounds and prior experience.
President Firdhiye also reinstated some ministers who previously served under the former SSC-Khaatumo administration. He described the appointments as part of efforts to form an inclusive government that addresses the needs of the local population.
Deputy ministers and state ministers have not yet been named, but are expected to be announced in the coming days.
The cabinet formation follows a reported disagreement between President Firdhiye and his deputy, poet Abdirashid, over power-sharing arrangements. The dispute was reportedly resolved ahead of the announcement.
The newly appointed ministers are expected to be sworn in later today in Lasanod, the administrative capital of the Northeastern State.
