MOGADISHU, Somalia — Sheikh Adan Madobe, the Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, met with the British Ambassador to Somalia, Mike Nithavrianakis, in Mogadishu on Tuesday. The meeting focused on deepening the bilateral ties between Somalia and the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Nithavrianakis expressed satisfaction with the existing relationship, noting the British Government’s contentment with the cooperative ties. He specifically commended the Somali Parliament for its legislative accomplishments, including the recent passage of crucial laws and the approval of the 2025 national budget.
The ambassador also conveyed the UK’s support for democratic processes in Somalia, particularly applauding the government’s commitment to conducting national elections.
The Acting President of Somalia, during the meeting, acknowledged the UK’s supportive role, emphasizing the importance of the British government’s backing across various sectors. Both leaders, including the Acting President and the Speaker, highlighted Somalia’s advancements in political, security, and economic domains, along with efforts to combat extremist groups within the country.
This meeting underscores a mutual interest in fostering a stronger partnership between the two nations, aiming at political stability, economic development, and counter-terrorism efforts in Somalia.
