MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a significant move towards addressing the global water crisis, Somalia actively participated in the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali, Indonesia, from May 18 to May 24, 2024.
The World Water Forum, which takes place every three years, is the world’s largest event on water, bringing together stakeholders from around the globe to collaborate and make progress on global water challenges.
The 2024 edition of the World Water Forum, themed “Water for Shared Prosperity,” was jointly organized by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the World Water Council. The forum provided a unique platform for the water community and key decision-makers to work together in promoting efficient and integrated water resources management.
Somalia’s delegation to the forum was led by State Minister for Energy and Water Mohamed Abdullahi, who emphasized the country’s commitment to achieving the goal of “Water for Shared Prosperity.” Senator Hussein Mohamed Dahir also participated in the forum, highlighting Somalia’s national water initiatives. These initiatives include the construction of new wells, the restoration of existing water sources, and the development of a comprehensive policy for water management.
During the forum, Somalia engaged in discussions with other participating nations on the importance of transboundary water resources in the Horn of Africa. This engagement reflects the country’s dedication to fostering regional cooperation in water management and addressing water scarcity challenges.
The 10th World Water Forum was attended by 30,000 participants from 172 countries, showcasing the global importance of water-related issues and the need for collective action to ensure water security for all.
