BAIDOA, Somalia — Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre presided over a crucial meeting of the South West State Council in Baidoa, aiming to fortify cooperation and improve essential services in the region, according to officials on Tuesday.
The gathering, which included discussions on political, economic, and security enhancements, also tackled the intensification of efforts against terrorism, particularly the eradication of groups known as Khawarij.
South West State President Abdicasis Mohamed Hassan, also known as Laftagareen, provided an overview of the region’s socio-economic conditions, focusing on the challenges and progress in security, governance, and economic stability.
Prime Minister Barre emphasized the need for a unified approach between the federal and regional governments to push forward development and security initiatives. He highlighted the government’s resolve to rid the country of terrorist threats, which have long hampered peace and development in the South West.
Additionally, Barre acknowledged Denmark’s support in enhancing Somalia’s economic and security sectors, stressing the importance of safeguarding the nation’s independence and unity. He also praised the local populace for their contributions to governance and community efforts.
