KAMPALA, Uganda – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Uganda for an Extraordinary Summit aimed at addressing pressing financial challenges facing the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
The summit, which brings together key regional stakeholders, will focus on securing vital funding for AUSSOM’s operations amid growing concerns about the international community’s commitment to the mission.
A significant point of discussion will be the reluctance among global actors to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 2719, which outlines the framework for AUSSOM’s role and operations following the conclusion of the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
AUSSOM plays a crucial role in Somalia’s security landscape, and its funding issues have raised alarms about the mission’s ability to maintain stability in the region. The summit in Kampala is expected to address these challenges and find solutions to ensure the continuity of the mission’s operations.
The outcome of the meeting could have significant implications for the future of Somalia’s security and international cooperation in the region.
