Mogadishu, July 3, 2025 – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday hosted a high-level meeting at the presidential palace in Mogadishu, continuing the National Consultative Forum he launched earlier this year in the capital.
The gathering brought together former national leaders, including a past president, former prime ministers, a former speaker of parliament, and other senior political figures.
According to the presidency, the meeting focused on key issues previously agreed upon in the forum, notably the completion of the constitutional review process, the implementation of a system for direct elections, and enhancing collective efforts to eradicate terrorism in the country.
President Mohamud emphasized the need for inclusive dialogue and cooperation among political stakeholders to ensure stability and democratic progress in Somalia. “Unity and joint responsibility are essential to achieving lasting peace and development,” he said.
The National Consultative Forum is part of the president’s broader effort to foster political consensus and drive forward critical state-building reforms, amid ongoing security and governance challenges in the Horn of Africa nation.
