ADDIS ABABA, July 28 — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a welcoming meeting on Sunday with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on the sidelines of the United Nations Food Security Summit in Ethiopia.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional security challenges, underscoring the importance of cooperation in combating terrorism, which threatens the stability and development of people across the Horn of Africa.
President Hassan emphasized that peace and security are essential pillars for sustainable progress in the region, calling for enhanced collaboration and mutual understanding to tackle insurgency and instability.
Prime Minister Abiy reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Somalia and highlighted the need for unified efforts to promote peace, security, and economic development in the Horn of Africa.
The summit provides a platform for regional leaders to address food security issues affecting millions and to explore avenues for cooperative solutions to ongoing humanitarian and security crises.
Both leaders agreed to continue deepening dialogue and partnership across political, security, and developmental fronts to ensure lasting stability in the region.
