HARGEISA, Somalia, June 28 – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Irro” is expected to arrive in Qatar on Saturday, leading a high-level delegation following an official invitation from the Qatari government, officials confirmed.

According to sources within the Somaliland presidency, the visit comes amid efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore potential cooperation between the self-declared republic and the Gulf state.

President Irro and his delegation, which includes senior members of his administration, are scheduled to hold meetings with top Qatari officials during the visit.

While the specific agenda has not been publicly disclosed, the talks are expected to touch on regional issues, economic partnerships, and diplomatic engagement.

“This is a significant diplomatic step,” one Somaliland official told Radio Shabelle on condition of anonymity. “The invitation alone reflects growing interest in Somaliland’s role in regional stability and development.”

Qatar has not yet issued an official statement regarding the visit.

Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, has maintained de facto autonomy with its own government and institutions, but remains unrecognized by the international community.

The visit to Doha marks one of the most high-profile diplomatic engagements for President Cirro since taking office.
