GAROWE [SMN] – Members of the Somali Federal Parliament reached Garowe, just hours after rival troops belonging to Puntland state exchanged a deadly gunfight near the airport.
At least three UAE-trained PMPF soldiers were killed and nine others were injured in a fight that took place on Monday night near the Garowe airport.
According to reports, the fighting began after pro-opposition forces tried to block cars ferrying ballot boxes on the outskirts of Garowe city, sparking a confrontation with guards.
The ballot boxes were returned to Garowe when the war broke out took a route outside the long road and reached the intended locations as confirmed by reliable information.
Neither the government nor the opposition politicians have yet spoken about the fight that took place on Monday night in the vicinity of Garowe airport.
The battle came a few hours after the opposition politicians called for the elections to be stopped by people and votes so as not to cause a security crisis.
The federal MPs are expected to mediate in the situation before it gets out of hand.
