WASHINGTON – Texas Republican Representative Brandon Gill is pushing a controversial plan to have Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar deported from the United States.

Gill, who has frequently criticized Omar, accused her of supporting undocumented immigrants from Somalia living in the U.S. and suggested she is not loyal to American interests.

In a recent social media post, Gill wrote, “It was never right to allow Ilhan Omar into our country. Honestly, America would be much better off if she were sent back to Somalia.”

Gill argues that Omar is primarily loyal to people from Somalia, claiming that she appears to prioritize an agenda that differs from America’s interests.

Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia and immigrated to the U.S. in 1995 after fleeing civil war, has become a prominent critic of former President Donald Trump’s policies. She has represented Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District since 2019, and in November 2024, she won re-election for a third term with support from both Somali and non-Somali constituents.

The call to deport Omar has sparked fierce debate across the U.S., especially given her growing influence in American politics. The controversy continues to highlight the ideological divides within the U.S. Congress.
