GURI’EL, Somalia – A heavy battle caused damage last night in the Guri’el district of the Galgadud region, central Somalia on Monday night.
The local residents said the skirmish was between the Galmudug state police force and armed militias, who have an influence in the area previously controlled by the Sufi sect.
The fighting came after the armed militias attacked the police force, who were said to be angry over the arrest of some of their men in the district.
It has been confirmed that two people were killed in the attack, one of whom is a police officer, while the other is a civilian who was hit by stray bullets.
As many as 4 other people were also injured, including the warring parties and civilians.
The situation in the city is calm this morning, and the latest reports say that the security forces of the district are carrying out investigations into the deadly incident.
